A round of applause and CrackerJack for everyone who came out last night to support the Victoria Harbourcats vs Kelowna Falcons baseball game in support of the Canadian Diabetes Assocation. The event was promoted to help “Strike out Diabetes/Strike out Hunger” and more than 2,500 baseball fans filled the stands at Royal Athletic Park. The Island Savings a division of First West Credit Union Community Crew had a great time welcoming the fans and helped to sell 50/50 tickets, painted faces and had our lovable mascot Penny the Owl entertain the crowds with Harbourcat mascot Harvey. Island Savings committed $100 to every strike out the Harbourcats made and in the end we rounded that number to an even 10 providing a $1,000 contribution to support their “Food Skills for Families” cooking classes which benefit low income families here in our island communities. With an additional $3400 raised through 50/50 sales and other promotions that donation will boost the grand total to $4,400 to help Diabetes Canada in their efforts to support those affected by diabetes live healthy lives, preventing the onset and consequences of diabetes, and discovering a cure. Thank you to all of staff who came out to support and give back including Team Lead Samantha Olaussen, Ashly Gait, Lauren Cebula, Nicole Oddson, Natasha Williams and Meaghan Grills. Thank you all ladies for your ongoing enthusiasm and passion to giving back and making a difference.
