Kristin Major, Thanks for Doing Some Good!

What inspires you to volunteer?

Volunteering is a way for me to give back to our community and to make a difference. Volunteering and community are core values of mine as I grew up in a small town and the power of community was instilled in me from a young age. Plus, it feels good to get out and be active volunteering within the community!

Which cause(s) are you most passionate about and why?

I am most passionate about Bats for a Cause and BC Children's Hospital. My passion for Bats for a Cause first began when I was introduced to the fun loving, charity softball tournament in 2010. The spirit, atmosphere, leadership and cause caught my attention and drew me in. Bats for a Cause raises money for The BC Children’s Hospital Foundation which holds a special place in my heart as I know many families who have needed to use their services first hand.

I also support the Central Okanagan Community Food Bank. Volunteering at the Food Bank gave me a firsthand look at the different needs within our community and the experience truly shared with me all that the Food Bank has to offer.

What impact have you seen the organization(s) you work with, and their volunteers, make in the community?

Bats for a Cause has raised over $380,000 for the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation since its inception. Our team alone, The Prospera Credit Union Bears, raised $9625 in 2016 for this tournament. We are looking forward to another successful year!

What support is needed by the organization(s) and how can people learn more or get involved?

The Food Bank has such unique needs and more people should volunteer at the Food Bank for a firsthand look into the services that it provides.
Bats for a Cause is July 29th & 30th this year. I encourage everyone to come out and support this great tournament. You could even put in a team. It’s for the kids! Visit Bats for a Cause on Facebook for more information. https://www.facebook.com/Bats-for-a-Cause-12818...

Is there a person, organization or caring company (e.g. employer) you would like to recognize that has helped support you to make a difference?

I would like to recognize both Prospera Credit Union and Volinspire as they have both allowed me the opportunity to get involved with a number of organizations, make many community connections, as well as make a meaningful difference in our community.
