Nature Ninjas Urban Camp Assistant

The School Programs department of Stanley Park Ecology Society (SPES) connects over 6000 students in grades K-7 to nature each year.
Good for Youth

One of our most innovative programs is the Nature Ninjas Urban Camping, a two-day, overnight nature immersion for Grades 4 to 7 students in Stanley Park.
This program, which is led by qualified SPES staff, teaches students about forest, wetland and intertidal ecology, in addition to skills like cooking food, teamwork, and camping out. For more information about the program, please see: http://stanleyparkecology.ca/edu...
We are looking for six to twelve dynamic volunteers to help with daytime and evening programming for the Urban Camping season. This is an incredible learning opportunity for those wanting to boost their ecology knowledge or those wanting experience working with children. As a Nature Ninjas Camp Assistant, you will directly help connect young people to nature in a meaningful way.
Time commitment
The Nature Ninjas Camp Assistant must commit to working a particular shift each week for the entire season, April 20 through June 23. Priority may be given to applicants who are available for multiple shifts per week.
6 shifts available:
Tuesdays: 9:00 a.m. 5:00 p.m. (8 hours)
Tuesdays: 4:00 p.m. 7:00 p.m. (3 hours)
Wednesdays: 9:00 a.m. 3:00 p.m. (6 hours)
Thursdays: 9:00 a.m. 5:00 p.m. (8 hours)
Thursdays: 4:00 p.m. 7:00 p.m. (3 hours)
Fridays: 9:00 a.m. 3:00 p.m. (6 hours)
Duties
Help campers set up their tents
Aid in group management
Be a positive role model
Assist in the co-ordination of meals and snacks
Day shift specific: Assist in and possibly lead outdoor education programs focused on forest, wetland and intertidal ecosystems as well as wilderness survival skills
Evening shift specific: Assist in the coordination of dinner, including food prep, camp stove set up, and clean up
Training
Training and orientation will occur on Monday, April 17, 5:00 p.m. 8:00 p.m.

SPES advises the Vancouver Park Board and provides baseline information on conservation issues within the Park, including ecosystem integrity, Environmentally Sensitive Areas and Species at Risk.
